Animator Tess Martin will be taking part in the upcoming exhibition at ArtsWest Gallery: Child’s Play. The show features three visual artists (Jessica Dodge, Michael Lowe and Wanda Pelayo) and Tess in the AMP (Alternative Media Platform) space. Though the Child’s Play exhibit runs from March 1st to 26th, Tess’ work will actually be up through the following exhibition as well (titled Domestic Patterns). This means it will be up from March 1st-April 26th, 2011.
Five of her films will be looped continuously: Plain Face (2011), A Moment’s Reverie (2007), Gaijin/The Foreigner (2006), Tribute (2005), Untitled (QAR) (2005). This is the first time so much of her work is being shown together, AND the first time you can see the complete and polished Plain Face, which was just completed for real two weeks ago! DVDs of Plain Face (which include awesome special features and two previous shorts) will also be on sale at the gallery. These are all excellent reasons to stop by!

The Artists’ Reception is on Thursday, March 10th, 6-7:30PM, in conjunction with the March West Seattle Art Walk.
Something else that’s quite exciting in the Gallery Onstage Event on Thursday, April 14th at 7:30PM. This will be a panel discussion moderated by Gallery Director Nichole DeMent, on the subject of video art and its challenges. Tess Martin will be taking part and contributing her experiences with different avenues of marketing and distribution for video art or short films. We are hoping to also have professionals who exhibit and collect video art as well as teach filmmaking. This promises to be a valuable, thought-provoking event. It’s free and open to the public and happens during West Seattle’s April Art Walk. It will be much better with you there asking questions! So make sure to mark your calendars.
